It’s Only March

Earlier this morning I went out to clean up the driveway. It was 12°F and I needed to rearrange some of the 15 1/2″ inches of fresh snow that fell yesterday. It only took a little more than two hours. I did snowblow for more than 1 mile, and I’ll have to do some more work on it later. But the cars are cleared and the driveway is driveable, more or less. This time of the year, the sun is higher in the sky so that should help my effort.

Honestly, I do enjoy the cool fresh air and the workout that is built into the effort. It has been a beautiful morning.

Winter Week

After a week of good old-fashioned winter weather, things are looking a little better around here. We had 31.5″ of snow in the last 7 days. Finally, a week of winter, to help rescue us from another weak winter. I am thinking I will be up on the roof this week. #ILoveWinter.

The Twins Love This Detective Work

Wet Snow

As I made my way around town this morning, I marveled with the kids at the spectacle of the winter wonderland we passed through. The limbs all around us, bending low, to display their burden in beautiful form. Trees bowed to the Creator, silent and still, in reverence to the One that giveth and taketh away. The fresh coat of white, wet snow, with barely a hint of breeze, made for a postcard setting around every turn. Yesterday’s imperfections redeemed, covered anew, with barely a trace. And isn’t it fitting that we sit to enjoy, to ponder, and to draw parallels, from this place. Nature has it’s darkness as do we all, still there are moments, when perfection draws near. If you listen in silence and look past the obstacles we all erect over time, I am refreshed and can see hope from right here.

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. ~ Psalm 118:24

And if the Lord sees fit to make the rest of the week, then too will I continue my thanks for the blessing and the promise in it.

24 Hours in February

Thursday I was at my Mom and Dad’s house and I was struck by the greenery of the yard, specifically because it was so green, on February 4th here in New Hampshire. The scene was quite abnormal for this time of winter here in the Northeast. The temperature at the time was somewhere around 54°F, which was also an anomaly.

Way too green and warm for southern NH on Feb. 4th.

Then, on Friday we received 6.5″ of snow at my house. There were communities around us that received anywhere from 5″ to 9″ of snow on Friday. Many schools were closed, and just like that, in 24 hours it felt like winter again.

Friday morning the snow was falling at a pretty good clip. The snow, in all of its purity, renews all it covers.

As I put this piece together and post it to my blog, on Monday, the 8th of February, it is snowing again in southern NH. It’s a cold, snowy day, and the temperature (with wind) feels like 8°F. We are still some 45″ of snow shy of our normal winter average, and I doubt we will hit the average or even get close. Then again, you never know what is in store for us the rest of this winter…and beyond.

By late afternoon the sun made an appearance so we could see it set. The bright, yellowish glow on the white coated trees was a sight to see.
