Afternoon Light

But where would I rather be?

If everyday this were mine to see.

Honestly Living

As I have mentioned before, I have come across a TV show that I just can’t get enough of. I have found, and thoroughly enjoy, The Last Alaskans. One review I read on this show used a word to describe this show, that I would also use, intoxicating. Completely intoxicating.

The show is now in its’ second season and I can still honestly say, I can sit down and feel myself relax when I hear the opening music to the show, Heimo Korth narrates the opening behind the pictures, and I wait to see what these characters will reveal this week. The blend of music, amazing scenes, the reverence of the participants to their way of life, the hard work seen, and unseen, the stories, their histories, it’s so real. There is no flash. There is real life. It’s so compelling.  Continue reading

Blessed Mornings

So, time and time again I stop and consider just how fortunate I am. I mean life is hectic. Something always gets in the way of something else. Demands on my time seem to have no end. Others come first, and there just seems to be so many ‘others’. Days run right into weeks and the top of to-do lists turn upside down, and even start over again. Sometimes I think this pace approaches madness. Early morning, late nights, full days, never enough time.

Then; Then right in the middle of overtired, battling every cold that comes home, body aching, attitudes in need of adjustment, and a list of things to get done that just won’t quit; there is peace in prayer. There is peace in meditation. There is peace in the quiet moments that never seem to linger long enough.

The twins on a quiet fall morning. The sun was rising and the shadows were long. My oh my, they're beautiful children. I'm a blessed man on another blessed morning.

In Plain Sight

I probably watch more TV than I would admit to. Primarily I watch my beloved Red Sox, and then shows on history, wildlife, survival, and a few DIY types now and again. Recently, as I have written here, I have found, and thoroughly enjoy, The Last Alaskans. One review I read on this show used a word to describe this show, that I would also use, intoxicating.

My schedule keeps me quite busy and I don’t always find myself settled in front of the TV on Sunday nights. Thankfully I can record the show and watch it when my schedule allows. Honestly, I can sit down and feel myself relax when I hear the opening music to the show, and I wait to see what these characters will reveal this week. Continue reading

Walking in the Woods

I love walking in the woods. Although I don’t make the time to explore the woods as often as I would like to, I am always fascinated by the things I see, hear, and experience in the woods when I do. I took a few pictures the other day while I wandered in the woods, and here are a few photos that I am sharing.

I found this pine tree that a Pileated Woodpecker had spent some time getting to know.

More evidence of the Pileated Woodpecker’s work.

I am no expert, but I am pretty certain that this is a very well-worn deer path. There were numerous paths just like this one, crisscrossing through these woods.

Thanks #28 (Quiet)

I am thankful for quiet. I don’t get much quiet, but I am thankful for it when I do. Quiet is just a nice sound to ponder. Quiet, with no phones, no TV, no computer, no background chatter, no traffic, no hustle, no bustle, just quiet. If I’m outside, then it’s quiet but for the sounds of nature, water, and wind that I long for. Just the quiet that after a few moments, allows me a chance to let my mind focus on anything, everything, and even nothing at all if I choose. Quiet is just a clear path for the mind to safely journey from place to place and complete the trip. I miss quiet, and I am thankful for quiet when I get it.
