Snow Streak

Here in my yard, in Goffstown, NH we have seen snow in the following amounts over the last 20 days or so. I know these are not necessarily record-breaking, and that others have seen a lot more, but this is a pretty good run none the less. I do love all four seasons and here in NH I do feel that we get a good taste of each season annually. So even though the air temperature was -8°F when I went to bed last night and my driveway needed snow blowing again today because of the snow that had blown into open areas at depths of several feet; I still love winter. Late this afternoon I spent another hour or two outside working in the cold and the snow. There’s just something special about the crisp, cold air, and taking in a deep breath of it while pondering the white world around me. #ilovewinter

Quote

I agree Lord Byron

There Is Pleasure In The Pathless Woods

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more,
From these our interviews, in which I steal
From all I may be, or have been before,
To mingle with the Universe, and feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.
~ Lord Byron

Oh if only I could speak so brilliantly and so beautifully. I can say though, that I do feel the same way.
Through me, this chord it does run, in every sense, I can feel
What I can ne’er express, yet cannot all conceal.

Some Roads Must Remain Open

A little snow doesn’t stop us; at least, not for very long. Our 14 year-old was on the ice, Bruins game on the radio, the twins were playing in (as well as eating) the snow, and I was taking care of the fire. The stars were bright in the clear winter sky, and I still love winter.

This path leads to the fire pit. However, due to the snow, the fire pit is quite separated from the rink now.

The fire is going, despite starting it on three or more feet of snow.

The fire dropped a couple of feet into the snow bank, but it is warm and still burning.

Yes, the snow banks on the sides of the rink are between four and five feet deep. That’s not going to stop the hockey.

Cozy White

I venture out into another cold winter’s night,
Warmed by memories and this reality of cozy white.

Thanks for this place

The wind whips the snow against the windows I hide behind
Now snow drained clouds drift overhead, flat light I find

Then I notice in the distance, blue sky encroaches this scene
With it, the cold icy winds bring air so crisp and clean

I watch the mercury in red, drop beneath this crystal sky
To the Lord I give thanks for this place, warm and dry

Surprise! More Snow!

It’s not a big storm, but it’s causing a mess on the roads this morning. We’ve got 4.5 additional inches of snow this morning. There’s just no more room to put this snow anywhere. I’m without a vehicle this week, so the twins and I are home. I’m off to clear the 400′ driveway so we can get oil delivered today. Meanwhile, the twins are snuggled in watching cartoons.
